In Peru, a large landslide covered dozens of houses in the city of Retamas. The cataclysm occurred on March 15 at about 8 am. Many residents were in their apartments at that moment. According to preliminary data, about 80 houses were buried under the soil.
Dozens of houses and at least 15 people were trapped under rubble, and six were reported missing as a result of the landslide. The country’s Emergency Operations Center reported this on Tuesday.
Peru’s National Civil Defense Authority said the landslide occurred in a remote mountain village in the department. The local government and civil defense sent rescuers to the scene to provide aid and supplies to the victims.
A local administration official told the media that heavy rains, which continued for several days, were the main cause of the landslides. Peruvian authorities have not yet reported a specific death toll.
On March 11, after prolonged rains, a massive landslide occurred in Malaysia, on the outskirts of the federal territory of Kuala Lumpur. Part of the hillside collapsed onto homes and vehicles. Local authorities reported that at least 15 houses were damaged or completely destroyed, and more than 10 vehicles were also damaged.
