The head of SpaceX and Tesla did not rule out that the conquest of Mars would require human sacrifice.
People should strive to return to the Moon and create a permanent base there, and then build a city on Mars, said American entrepreneur and head of Tesla Elon Musk.
“Almost half a century has passed since people last landed on the surface of the Moon. This is too long a break, and I believe that we need to return there and create a permanent base there. And it should be a large base, there should always be someone there – then be. Later we need to build a city on Mars to become a space-faring civilization, an interplanetary species,” Musk said at a press conference after the successful launch of the corporate spacecraft Crew Dragon into orbit.
Elon Musk warned that the conquest of Mars will require human sacrifice, and only volunteers will go to conquer the Red Planet. According to him, there are thousands, if not millions, of volunteers for such an adventure.
“Elon Musk’s words in this case can be interpreted to mean that, yes, the risk of a fatal outcome during long-distance flights will increase proportionally. This is also a certain pattern, but it does not detract from the fact that every effort must be made to minimize this risk,” – Deputy Director for Science of the Institute of Medical and Biological Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, cosmonaut Oleg Kotov said at a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency.
Elon Musk’s SpaceX could help NASA land astronauts on the moon by 2024: “I think it’s quite feasible… We’re going to get there sooner, but today is a realistic goal.”
SpaceX has won a NASA contract to fly astronauts to the surface of the Moon. The contract, worth $2.89 billion, provides for the creation of a system for landing a crew on the surface of the Moon by 2024. SpaceX will build a reusable Starship for manned flights beyond Earth’s orbit, four astronauts will be delivered to the Gateway lunar station on the Orion spacecraft, which will be launched from Earth on a super-powerful SLS rocket. Then from there, two of them will go to the Moon on SpaceX’s Starship. The return journey, NASA said, will be the same.
