As a result, two people died and 32 were rescued from the rubble. 140 people were injured, the condition of 12 of them is assessed as serious.
The Turkish province of Hatay, also affected by a series of earthquakes, was visited on February 28 by the head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. He called the scale of destruction “incredible” and what happened “one of the worst disasters in recent history.”
In addition, in Hatay province, as a result of the earthquake, a giant fault appeared; it divided an olive field with an area of about 35 hectares in half. The fault is 30 meters wide and more than 200 meters long. Roscosmos published footage taken using the Kanopus-V spacecraft, which shows the consequences of a strong earthquake in southeastern Turkey. The tectonic fault is indicated in dark gray.
