On February 15, in just 6 hours, more than a month’s rainfall fell in the city of Petropolis. At least 104 people were killed in landslides and floods caused by heavy rains.
More than 50 houses were destroyed, several dozen people are missing. Rescue services are providing assistance to the victims. Three days of mourning were declared in the city.
RIA Novosti reports that rescuers and volunteers have already discovered about a hundred dead, eight of them are children. In just a few hours, the city received a month’s worth of precipitation. Streams of water, descending from the hills, swept away houses, cars and trees in their path.
Streets, squares and courtyards of residential buildings were flooded, and landslides were recorded in 52 places. It was previously reported that 24 people were killed and over 400 injured as a result of floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in the Brazilian state of Bahia.
